Power-system modelling software
HV Power Flow gives project developers and engineers an accessible workspace for building, solving and checking an interconnection case before the utility performs licensed validation in PSS/E.
Where it fits
PSS®E is an established utility and transmission-planning platform. HV Power Flow addresses an earlier part of the job: creating the project network, entering equipment and manufacturer data, testing the proposed architecture, and preparing exchange files that can move into a PSS/E review environment.
This can reduce the cost and friction of early interconnection iterations while preserving a familiar utility handoff.
HV Power Flow does not replace utility-approved study models, manufacturer validation, professional engineering review or the utility's licensed PSS/E verification.
Workflow comparison
The practical question is not whether every PSS/E capability is duplicated. It is whether the project team can develop a coherent case that enters the utility workflow without rebuilding the architecture.
| Workflow need | HV Power Flow | Licensed PSS/E environment |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Runs in a modern browser with subscription access. | Desktop or enterprise installation with a Siemens licence. |
| Model drafting | Visual buses, branches, transformers, machines, BESS, loads and shunts. | Full transmission-planning database and diagram environment. |
| Project studies | Power flow, short circuit, N-1, PV/QV and RMS dynamic development studies. | Broad production study suite, automation APIs and approved model libraries. |
| Dynamic data | Organizes supported model parameters and exports DYR records. | Executes the utility's approved dynamic libraries and user-defined models. |
| Exchange | Exports PSS/E-compatible RAW, DYR and sequence-data records with readiness checks. | Reads, validates, solves and saves the utility's official case. |
| Final authority | Project development and submission preparation. | Licensed utility validation and formal study execution. |
From model to handoff
Lay out the POI, voltage levels, transformers, lines, collector buses, loads, generation, BESS and shunts.
Capture ratings, impedances, controls, sequence values, dynamic parameters and manufacturer references.
Review steady-state balance, equipment duty, contingencies, voltage margin and time-domain events.
Identify missing PSS/E fields, inconsistent terminals, unsupported dynamic records and incomplete sequence data.
Create the RAW, DYR, SEQ companion, collector report and PSS/E validation runner from one case.
The professional and utility load the exchange package, apply official study assumptions and confirm the results.
Common questions
No. HV Power Flow is an alternative workspace for developing interconnection models and producing PSS/E-compatible exchange files. It is not a substitute for the utility's official base case, approved dynamic-model libraries or final licensed validation.
The export workflow targets PSS/E RAW revisions 34 and 35 and produces companion dynamic and sequence records. Each project still requires read-back testing in the target PSS/E version and confirmation against current utility requirements.
Project teams can iterate quickly in HV Power Flow, then give the utility structured files for verification in the environment it already uses.
Start with the electrical architecture, solve the case and prepare the PSS/E exchange package in one browser workspace.
